Why have you been prescribed NovoRapid® and what is it?
Having diabetes means that managing your blood sugar levels is very important.
You and your healthcare professional have decided that NovoRapid®, also known as insulin aspart, is the appropriate kind of insulin to help you do this.
In people without diabetes, the body naturally releases insulin into the bloodstream. This helps control blood sugar levels and keeps them consistent throughout the day. In people with diabetes, NovoRapid® helps the body stabilise blood sugar levels by working in a similar way.
NovoRapid® is a modern insulin (insulin analogue) and has a rapid blood sugar-lowering effect.
NovoRapid® is a mealtime insulin that helps your body reduce your blood sugar level. Your healthcare professional will advise you on the most appropriate timing for your individual treatment plan. Please refer to the Patient Information Leaflet for full information on how to use your insulin. NovoRapid® will start to lower your blood sugar 10–20 minutes after you inject it and the effect lasts for 3–5 hours. Due to this short action NovoRapid® should normally be taken in combination with intermediate-acting or long–acting insulin medicines.
Resources to support you with your NovoRapid® treatment
We have developed digital booklets with you in mind to support you throughout your NovoRapid® treatment. It will give you information about NovoRapid®, an explanation of how NovoRapid® works and some things to remember when using NovoRapid®. We have developed one booklet for adults and adolescents that have been prescribed NovoRapid® and another booklet for parents/carers whose child has been prescribed NovoRapid®.

We also have the NovoRapid® for Vial and PumpCart® and NovoRapid® for PenFill® (a pre-filled insulin cartridge designed for use in a reusable insulin pen such as NovoPen® 6 or NovoPen Echo® Plus) and FlexPen® insulin digital safety cards available. These can be downloaded and printed at home and can be used to inform healthcare professionals throughout your treatment which medicine you or your child are taking, as well as to check if you or your child have been prescribed the correct medication. These safety cards can be carried by you or your child with ease, due to their size.

Reporting of side effects
If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. This includes any possible side effects not listed in the Patient Information Leaflet. You can also report side effects directly via the Yellow Card Scheme at yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk. Side effects should also be reported to Novo Nordisk Limited (Telephone Novo Nordisk Customer Care Centre 0800 023 2573). Calls may be monitored for training purposes. By reporting side effects, you can help provide more information on the safety of this medicine.
